Monopoly Deal Rules. How to play?

Monopoly Deal is possibly one of the most entertaining card games of the last few years.

In this game you will have a great time, laugh, and even lose your good friends. And the fact is that in Monopoly Deal, once you start playing you are all enemies.
While it is true that many people hate classical Monopoly (including myself) this game has little in common.

It’s true that it has property cards, rentals, houses, and hotels, but it has nothing of rolling the dice or paying with cash.

In this game luck will have little to do, and the smartest will win the game.

Therefore, in this article we are going to tell you how to play Monopoly Deal properly, everything you need to know to start playing the game, and the instructions for it.

Let’s get started!

Monopoly Deal Instructions. Rules of the Game.

The objective of this game is very clear, and it is that you have to be THE FIRST PLAYER TO GET 3 COMPLETE GROUPS OF DIFFERENT COLOR PROPERTIES.

To start playing, you have to follow the next steps:

  • 1. Remove the Quick Rules Cards from the pack and hand them out to your friends for support. (If you don’t have them, it’s okay)
  • 2. Shuffle the cards and deal 5 cards, face down, to each player.
  • 3. All players look at their cards, but no one shows them!
  • 4. Place the remaining cards face down in the center of the table. This will correspond to the deal stack.
  • 5. The youngest player (or the oldest, or the one you like) starts. The game continues clockwise.

Now, what to do when your turn begins?

To start your turn, you have to take 2 CARDS from the deal pile.

If you run out of cards during the game, you have to take 5 instead of 2. This is good, so try to run out of cards as much as possible.

You will then have to do 3 actions, in other words, PLACE UP TO 3 CARDS ON THE TABLE. These cards will have to be placed in front of you.

To sum up, we find the following actions:

Put Cash Cards or Action Cards. With them, you will pay.

In Monopoly Deal you will need, just like in the world we live in, the money to survive.

Most cards have the ambivalence of serving as both action and money. You will find the economic value of each card at the top right.

Players can do many actions such as collecting rent, stopping by the exit, celebrating their birthday…

Also, you should know that if you place an Action Card on your Bank it will no longer have that condition for the rest of the game. The same applies if you use a stock card to pay, as it will only be considered as money.

Put Down Properties. With 3 groups of properties of different colours you will win the game

Another action you can perform is to put properties on the table. When you get 3 full groups, you will win the game, which is the main objective of the game.

Each card shows how many properties there are to collect in that colour group.

It is also important that you organize your properties well, as you will not be able to reorganize them until you have your turn, so pay attention.

Use the Action Cards

To understand the Action Cards, you just have to read what they say. If you are told to draw 2 cards, you will logically have to draw them if you have played that card as an action.

On top of that, Action Cards allow you to do things like collect rents from other players, take their cards away, and even ask all the players for money!

As we said before, Action Cards can also be used as money, however, they will lose their action value forever.

How to Pay Players in Monopoly Deal

Cards may NEVER return to a player’s hand.

Therefore, you can never pay with cards from your hand, only with cards you have placed in the table.

You can pay with cards from your bank, with property, or a combination of the 2. You choose how you want to pay… not the player you pay! No change is allowed to any player!

For example, if a player charges you 3M rent and you only have a 4M card on your dealer, you don’t get change. Bad luck! If you pay with property cards, they must go to the other player’s property compilation.
